Safiya Mehraj

Safiya Mehraj is a talented researcher, artist, and calligrapher from Kashmir who is redefining the connection between science and creativity. Currently pursuing her Ph.D. at CSIR-IIIM, she has earned recognition for her groundbreaking “NeuroArt,” a creative field where neuroscience concepts are expressed through art and calligraphy.

Her inspiring journey gained international attention when she became the first researcher from Kashmir to have her NeuroArt selected for the Joint ICGEB – ALS Society of Canada Symposium in 2022. Later, her work was showcased globally at the RANZCR 75th Annual Scientific Meeting held in Melbourne, Australia in 2025.

Apart from her academic excellence, Safiya has also been honoured among the Top 50 Remarkable Women of 2026. She received the Art Excellence Award as the year’s Best Calligrapher and Artist from Diva Planet Magazine and was also awarded the JK Gaurav Samman 2026 at SKICC Srinagar for her contributions to society as an Artist and Calligrapher.

She additionally received the Women Excellence Award 2026 presented by Bharat Good Times. Safiya’s journey stands as an inspiration for Kashmiri youth, especially young women pursuing science, creativity, and innovation together.
